Shadows dance
round the hanging tree
songs of repentance
are written on its branches
Curses and weeps
make the leaves shiver and shake
The hand of an undead judge
still checks the rope
to make sure it' ll hold
"Bring those who are sentenced to death
so they' ll die again tonight
let the horses run
and the necks break
Not a funeral for the executed
not even a shallow grave
vultures shall eat their eyes
wild dogs and jackals shall devour
their innards."
The verdict echoes
again tonight
under the pale light of the moon
nightbirds carry the souls
of the criminals
to water the soil and feed the roots
of the hanging tree
